We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the SSS Program Committee for their hard work on pulling together this program. It takes a SSS community to build an exciting program and we are incredibly grateful for our SSS team. We would also like to thank each of you who submitted your papers, posters, full sessions, workshops, panels, and author-meets-curios-readers sessions. We have an inspiring program, built around the theme of ““I Will Find A Way or Make One”: Embracing and Advancing the American South’s Tradition of Sociological Innovation and Scholar-Activism” which includes our collective work and actively advance sociology.
Please, look very closely at the program and notify us if you need corrections or updates (e.g., affiliations, typos, title changes, etc.) by February 7th, 2023. After February 7th, 2023 we will be unable to make changes to the final program. In accordance with SSS policy, we cannot honor special requests for dates or times of session. Thank you for your help in reviewing the draft program and for adhering to SSS policies.
The preliminary program is saved in a searchable PDF format; use the Ctrl+F function to search for your name. Also, if you organized a session, please remain in contact with participants in your session to confirm their attendance and have them check the program for errors. As we get closer to the meeting, keep an eye out for additional correspondence from the Executive Office, President Earl Wright, II, and our Local Arrangements Chairs.
There will also be communication well before the conference for members to download and set up their accounts for the SSS 2023 Mobile App. There are no longer any physical programs or tote bags at SSS annual meetings; the Mobile App is the primary way members will navigate the conference.
Registration and Hotel Reservations
Take advantage of the reduced registration and hotel costs by registering and booking early! To join, renew your dues, or check the status of your membership, log in to your SSS Member Portal. Book your room at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach using this link. Web-based reservations are preferred but you may also call 1-888-627-8203 to reserve a room – simply mention that it is for the “Southern Sociological Society Annual Meeting”. The SSS conference rate is $169. Deadline for booking within the SSS Annual Meeting room block rate is March 6, 2023. However, the room block often fills up well before this cut-off date.
Membership Dues, Proof of Vaccination, and Pre-Registration
Per SSS policy, all authors who appear on the program must be a current dues-paying member and all who intend to attend and/or present at the annual meeting must also be registered for the conference and submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Please pay your dues now so you can enjoy the full membership benefits of SSS all year. We also strongly encourage you to pre-register for the meeting. The cut-off date for pre-registration rates is March 1, 2023. Those who wait until after this date will have to register and pay dues on-site where the fees are higher. You will be prompted to provide your proof of vaccination when you register for the annual meeting. To renew your membership, register for the annual conference, and/or upload your vaccine card, visit our membership portal.
