SSS 2021 Goes Virtual!

SSSers.

It is with great excitement that we announce that SSS 2021 will be virtual this year!

At President Adia Harvey Wingfield’s meeting we will collectively wrestle with her deeply relevant theme, “Will America Work? Race, Polarization, and Economic Inequality,” as well as celebrate the work of our members across the breadth and depth of the discipline. Please see the recent TSS article  for a closer look at the meeting.

Thank you to everyone for being patient as we worked to renegotiate our two hotel contracts in New Orleans – the Marriott and the Omni. I am happy to announce that we were able to secure cancellations with no penalties. This is a huge relief. We will be rebooking the Marriott for SSS 2027.

In order to make our first (and hopefully last) virtual meeting worthy of the amazing, engaging, and rejuvenating event that is the annual meeting of the Southern Sociological Society, we contracted with an equally exciting platform. After testing out over a dozen potential products over the Summer and Fall, we are excited that the virtual SSS 2021 will use the All In The Loop interface. More details will be forthcoming.

I know that the Program Co-Chairs, Brandon Jackson and Rashawn Ray, as well as their incredible Program Committee have been hard at work processing the submissions (and we received a lot of submissions) over the past couple of months. They will be sending notifications to those who submitted papers, posters, workshops, Author Meets Curious Readers, and more, within the next few days.

Be on the lookout too, for the Preliminary Program by mid February.

The SSS 2021 team really wanted to make the meetings affordable, especially for students, contingent/unemployed faculty, and emeriti. We were able to accomplish this! Please see the Annual Meeting page for the fee structure for SSS 2021 and note that fees will increase after March 1st

Now that we know the format of the meetings, please PreRegister for SSS 2021 here.

You can also renew your SSS membership here.

While we wish we could be together in person, we are very excited about the virtual SSS 2021. Let’s make this yet another epic SSS annual meeting where we rejuvenate and reconnect. Let’s make it one to remember.

Sincerely,

David L. Brunsma
