SSS 2024 Update from Program Co-Chairs

Dear SSS members,

We are so excited to update you on our planning for the 2024 meeting. In response to the Call for Papers built around President Gayle Kaufman’s theme “Disrupting Binaries,” we received about 700 submissions for research papers, posters, thematic sessions, panels, workshops, and much more. It is truly impressive to see all these titles and keywords associated with the submissions, and the diversity of the society with its growing membership, especially of students! These submissions surely make great ingredients for what will be an amazing SSS meeting. The Program Committee are working hard so SSS’ers can deliver their important work and hear those of fellow members. Also in the works are many fun events and activities you can take part in and connect with each other outside the formal sessions. We will send abstract acceptance notifications to those who submitted in early January. Shortly afterward, in mid-January, the preliminary program be available!

For the moment, please be sure to renew your membership, register for the annual meeting, and book your room at Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. New Orleans is such a great venue for our annual conference, and a magnificent place to be for its rich diverse history and culture. Come join us to experience it all—music, arts, architectures, bustling streets, and foods! Want to recharge between sessions another way? Take a stroll down the Mississippi riverfront or join the city’s residents to savor beautiful green spaces across the city.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us: program@southernsociologicalsociety.org

Looking forward to a stimulating conference!
