Primary responsibilities will be on the Dahlonega Campus, which is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and 65 miles north of Atlanta.
The Department of Sociology and Human Services at The University of North Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Sociology, with an area of specialization with clear applied implications and with applied experience (and/or a secondary applied degree), and will support both sociology and human services. Relevant areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, veteran and military studies, aging and gerontology, health and mental health, family and community studies, substance use, nonprofit organizations, program evaluation, public policy, social welfare, or community development.

- The successful candidate will:
- Have a strong commitment to supporting student success with an emphasis on best practices such as HIPs and experiential learning.
- Demonstrate a successful record (and commitment to) teaching in a liberal arts environment.
- Provide evidence of scholarship through publications and presentations in peer-reviewed environments and a well-defined research agenda.
- Teach a 4/4 course load according to the needs of the department.
- Serve on departmental, school, and university committees.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Sociology at the time of appointment. Advanced ABD candidates will be considered (Ph.D. must be in hand by the hire date). A secondary degree in an applied area (such as social work or clinical psychology) would be considered a bonus.
