Announcement of Lecturer Position in Sociology


Lecturer in Sociology The Department of Sociology at The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a full-time, one-year lecturer appointment beginning August 2021, with the possibility of renewal for a second year dependent upon performance, funding availability, and need for the position. Ideal candidates will be serious educators and scholars with excellent teaching skills and prior online teaching experience. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate courses in Introduction to Criminology, Introduction to Sociology, and Deviance and Social Control, and possibly, subject to department needs, an additional course in the candidate’s area of expertise. The regular teaching load is four courses (12 credit hours) per semester and may include both online and traditional formats. The preferred qualification is a Ph.D. in Sociology but the minimum qualification for the position is an M.A. in Sociology, or at least 18 credit hours of graduate course work in sociology if the candidate’s degree is in a closely related field.

About the College: The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at The University of Alabama in Huntsville comprises 9 departments and 84 full-time faculty. We offer a wide array of programs in the arts, humanities, and social sciences including 21 B.A. programs, five M.A. programs, and eight certificate programs. The college has also led the way in creating several interdisciplinary minors, such as Women’s and Gender Studies, Global Studies, and Game Design and Development. Our class sizes are relatively small and our collegial faculty are committed to our students’ successes.


About the Department: The Department of Sociology offers a B.A. in Sociology, a minor in sociology, and an undergraduate certificate in Social Data Analysis. Faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, research and service, and contribute to interdisciplinary minors within the college.
