Job opportunity: Assistant Professor of Sociology, Newberry College

JOB DESCRIPTION: Newberry College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Sociology beginning in August 2022.  Candidates must have a commitment to quality teaching that complements the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department’s engagement with community partnerships, undergraduate research, and focus on preparing engaged citizens. Candidates should be prepared to teach a wide variety of courses in Sociology and courses that aim at developing professional writing skills. Candidates should also be open to the contribution toward adjacent programming in and outside the Department. The Department and the College are committed to fostering excellence in diversity and inclusion.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Expected to teach in the traditional and online settings as assigned and to participate in activities in the Department, which includes the advising of students. A complete list of Duties and Responsibilities can be found in the Faculty Policies Manual. Perform other duties as required, as assigned by the Department Chair, or in accordance with the faculty handbook

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION: Master’s degree in Sociology from an accredited university required. Doctoral Degree preferred. Must have prior teaching experience. Experience with Regional and local Sociology or Social Work agencies preferred. Must meet the College criteria for faculty appointment and have the ability to support the goals and mission of the College and the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
