Job opportunity: Assistant Professor of Sociology, Middle Tennessee State University

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Sociology at the assistant professor rank. The position start date is August 1, 2023.  A Ph.D. in Sociology or closely related field is expected at time of appointment.  

Areas of interest are open, but special consideration will be given to applicants with teaching and research expertise in deviance, drugs/addiction studies, criminology, and juvenile delinquency. Additional areas of interest include family violence, race/ethnicity; sex trafficking, sociology of law, and/or social justice/activism.  Candidates will be expected to teach courses in their areas of expertise at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Evidence of teaching experience, an active research agenda, and professional activity is expected.  We seek a colleague committed to social justice and willing to work with a diverse student body that includes many first-generation college students. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Review of applicants will begin October 31, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will join a supportive and collegial department of 11 sociologists and 9 anthropologists which offers undergraduate majors in both fields and an M.A. in Sociology. Sociology faculty pursue nationally recognized research on basic and applied social science questions and have expertise in several areas including criminology, gender, work, family, environment and social justice. The department is also methodologically diverse, employing a variety of quantitative and qualitative approaches.
