Job Opportunity: Assistant Professor of Sociology, Fordham University

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fordham University invites applications for the position of full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in sociology, to start at the beginning of the fall 2022 semester. The candidate should have a research focus and demonstrated ability to teach sociology of race and ethnicity, as well as the ability to teach undergraduate quantitative methods. A secondary interest in the sociology of health or environmental sociology, or a research agenda centered in the Bronx or New York City, are especially desirable but are not requirements.

This is an exciting time to join the Fordham community. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology has recently added several faculty who focus on race and ethnicity. Fordham University is actively strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the Arts and Sciences, including faculty and curricular offerings. In addition, our cosmopolitan setting in New York City offers unparalleled opportunities for research with diverse populations.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, an active program of research and publication, and an enthusiasm for working effectively with a diverse student population are required. Teaching responsibilities will be in the undergraduate program within Fordham College at Rose Hill (in the Bronx).

Applications should be submitted online at Interfolio (http://apply.interfolio.com/98336) and should include a cover letter, CV, writing sample (no more than 35 pages), sample syllabi, and the names and contact information for three references. Candidates may also optionally submit evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as student evaluations. We will begin reviewing candidates after November 15th, but applications received by December 1st will receive full consideration. Please direct inquiries to Dr. Orit Avishai, Search Committee Chair (avishai@fordham.edu). Fordham is an independent, Catholic university in the Jesuit tradition committed to excellence through diversity. Fordham is an equal opportunity employer, and we especially encourage women, people of color, veterans and people with disabilities to apply.
