How do I update my membership information?

How can I tell if my dues are current?
A list of current members will be maintained on our membership page, which is located here. Alternatively, you can contact the SSS office by email, by phone at 865-974-2620, or by mail at Po Box 16239, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN 37996.


I just paid my dues at the annual meeting. Why am I getting a dues notice?
Membership in the SSS extends from July 1 to June 30. Dues received at the annual meeting are good only until June 30. Any dues received after May 1 will be applied to the following year’s dues.


Why did I receive a notice that my membership expired, if I’m still receiving Social Forces?
Membership in the SSS extends from July 1 to June 30. Social Forces subscriptions are maintained annually, depending on when a member pays their dues. If, for example, a person pays their dues at the annual meetings in April, their membership will expire on July 1, but they will continue to receive Social Forces until the following April.


Can I obtain a receipt for my dues?
If you pay your dues by credit card, you will be emailed a receipt automatically. If you pay by check, you will not be sent a receipt unless you request one.


Is there a printable membership form?
Yes. You can download it on our membership page and mail it with your membership dues check.


I want to pay for someone else’s dues/registration by credit card. What do I do?
Enter information on our electronic payment site as though the membership is for you. When you click “checkout” you will be asked if the shipping address is correct. Click the “change address” button and change the current shipping address to the correct name and the address where the member wishes to receive Social Forces.


I want to pay for several people’s membership/registration by credit card. What do I do?
The best thing to do is to enter the transaction for each person separately (see information above about purchasing memberships for other people). Alternatively, enter a single credit card transaction for the full amount, then send an email explanation to webmaster.


I never seem to get any information from SSS. Why?
Most information coming from SSS is distributed by email to either SSSANN (for official announcements from the President or Secretary-Treasurer) or SSSNET (general correspondence). If your email address is not up to date in the SSS office, you may not be receiving these emails. To update your email address for either listerv, or to be added to the general correspondence listserv, just send an email to our webmaster. It is also a good idea to make sure that information from the listserv is not being picked up by your organization’s spam filter.


My department is hiring. Can we advertise a position through the SSS?
Yes. For $100, your department can have their job(s) posted on our website and distributed by email to our members. For more information, contact Stephanie Bohon, Secretary-Treasurer.
